Microsoft Introduces Windows Server 2012

The beta version of Windows Server 2012 has a wide variety of compelling features to offer. From enhanced security to multi-machine organisation, Windows Server 2012 is something that is worth the wait.

Accessibility and Control at their Best
The new Windows Server 202 features file system security boosters that are packaged in its Dynamic Access Control or DAC. Tampering as well as unauthorised access has no place in Windows Server 2012, thanks to its empowered DAC.
Through the DAC, all kinds of data are toughly protected and secured within the server. This beta version enhances the central
access policies that prevent unauthorised access to files and objects. The policies double-check the user’s identity, the device being used to access the file, and the type of data that the user tries to access.
With the help of DAC, creating your own policies regarding access to a specific file is possible. Both industrial and government laws and regulations are easier to comply with when you create restrictive policies. The policies may be according to the type of data being accessed, the department assignment of the user, or both.
Audit policies which were firstly used in Windows Server 2008 (the R2 version) are improved in Windows Server 2012. Tags and labels are appropriately applied in order to classify files and folders properly. The tags may include the kind of data, the expiration date of the restriction on data access, and many others.
These audit policies also record both successful and unsuccessful attempts to access data, to identify any loopholes in the policies as well as problems regarding user access.

Improved Relay of Graphics to Sessions
Remote Desktop Protocol or RDP has made it possible to transfer graphics to hosted Remote Desktop sessions without the need for video cards and GPU cards.
The GPUs are already virtualised and are able to bring high performance Remote Desktop sessions in no time. Fast responsiveness, smooth graphics and continuous audio playback are achievable with Windows Server 2012 as the host server.
In addition to this, a different virtual hard disk or VHD is created by the operating system as storage for information that indicates user personalisation and preferences. The VHD is played by Windows once the user logs in to the desktop.

Enhanced USB Support and Bandwidth Sharing
No special drivers are needed to make a USB device work successfully on an RDP session if it is also working on a local Windows client.
Now, non-local peripherals such as webcams and smart card readers can be easily used without installing any specific drivers.
When it comes to the bandwidth allocated to memory, CPU, network and disk space, the bandwidth is shared fairly, giving the user a limit with regards to the availability of resources. This technology is called “Fair Share” that allows all users to have equal VDI experiences.

Better DirectAccess
Windows Server 2012 also includes enhanced DirectAccess, a technology that permits secured tunnelling just like a real VPN, without the unwanted performance hit that VPN gives off. Connecting to file shares is, therefore, made easier in this beta version of Windows server.
